There are certain recipes that don’t belong to special occasions.
They belong to ordinary Tuesdays.
The kind of afternoon where the windows are open, coffee has gone a little cold, and the blueberries in the fridge need to be used before another grocery trip.
I’ve started to appreciate those recipes the most.
Not because they’re impressive, but because they quietly become part of a home. They fill the kitchen with familiar smells. They give everyone something to gather around. They make an ordinary afternoon feel just a little more memorable.
These blueberry citrus muffins are one of those recipes.
The orange brightens the blueberries without overpowering them, and the batter comes together with ingredients I usually already have in the pantry.
I think that’s part of why I love baking so much.
It’s rarely about creating something extraordinary.
It’s about taking ordinary ingredients and turning them into something worth sharing.
Makes: 12 muffins
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes a home feel like home.
I don’t think it’s expensive furniture or perfectly decorated rooms.
I think it’s the little things we remember without realizing we’re remembering them.
The smell of muffins coming from the oven.
Fresh coffee waiting in the kitchen.
Someone walking in and asking, “What are you baking?”
Those are the moments that quietly become our lives.
The older I get, the more I realize I’m not trying to create an extraordinary life anymore.
I’m simply learning to notice the ordinary one.
Maybe that’s why these simple recipes matter so much.
They’re never really about the muffins.
They’re about creating a life that feels warm enough to remember.
If you make these, I’d love to hear how they turned out. Sometimes the simplest recipes become the ones we make for years. 🌿
